The Rochester Red Wings keep Frontier Field full of fans all season long, but now the "Boys of Summer" are sharing the diamond with a special group of ladies.

Lauren Slama is part of the "Diamond's are a Girl Best Friend" program. Her husband Anthony is a relief pitcher for the Red Wings.

"It's actually pretty cool. I'd never been in the bullpen side and that's where my husband's played every game for the last 4 years."

The group will walk the perimeter of the field every weekday in July between noon and one o'clock, except when a game is scheduled.

Women in the team's front office started the program earlier this month.

Red Wings' President and CEO Naomi Silver said "Even when you're working in the office and working really hard you really aren't getting that blood pumping, so we're trying to do that for the health and welfare of our women on staff and anyone else that will join us."

People who sign up get a free t-shirt, a clinic with the team and a chance at a $3,500 diamond necklace.

The $35 dollar sign-up fee goes to the United Way.

Silver added "This community has been so great to the Red Wings. They show up wonderfully and are so supportive of us. We'd like to do something to be able to give back, so raising money for the United Way is one of the ways we're doing that this summer."

Slama says the experience with her husband's team and their support staff has really opened her eyes.

"It's really fun supporting the team and also having a little portion of what he does for a living, the smell, the atmosphere."
