BBB Warns Of "Smishing" Scams

The Better Business Bureau calls it "smishing." The bureau says scammers are sending spam text messages and are using trusted company names to get people to claim phony prizes. The scams offer free laptops, mortgage assistance and loans. The bureau is encouraging consumers to delete sketchy text messages. They advise that consumers should not respond at all to text messages offering prizes because doing so confirms cell phone numbers. Consumers are also encourage to monitor their bank statements.
