At Eastridge High School, Torrey Cobb is a standout in the band program, just as he was at Wheatland-Chili before that. Torrey transferred to Eastridge for his senior year, and his star power followed him. "The kid just came in and blew me away!" says Jeff Hoffman, Instrumental Music Teacher at Eastridge. "He's an amazing musician. In a lot of ways he's a better musician than I am."

Torrey plays with precision and passion. He loves the timpany, in part because it allows him to exercise his gift of perfect pitch. Torrey also plays the euphonium. His versatility and talent have earned him plenty of recognition, from all county and all state accolades, to a coveted spot on the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra. He even won a scholarship. He says music pushed him to excel and to believe in himself. "As long as you know you're a player, go in and play as best you can and that's what I did," he says. "If I have the chance I will teach. I think I have what it takes to encourage others."

Torrey plans to study music in college. His dream is to teach, perform, and conduct. A dedicated musician, Torrey is on his way.
