After three straight losses in the Section V title game, the Penfield girl's lacrosse team cleared the hurdle, winning 8-7 over Pittsford in the Class A championship.

Now the Patriots will play Lancaster of Section V in Saturday's 6 p.m. state quarterfinal from Buffalo's All-High Stadium.

Penfield closed out the first half with three straight goals to take a 5-2 lead into the break. The second half saw the game open up, allowing Pittsford to close the gap to 7-6 with ten minutes to play. The two teams traded goals, giving Penfield an 8-7 lead with seven minutes remaining.

Down the stretch, Penfield perfectly used their zone defense to keep Pittsford at bay. For Penfield, it's their first Section V championship since 2007.
