The Braves jumped ahead early after Stefan Gartrell jacked a two-out solo home run in the first inning. Ernesto Mejia doubled on the next at-bat and scored when Drew Sutton followed up with another double. French was able to retire the next batter, but the Braves left the top of the inning with a 2-0 lead.
The Wings led off the bottom of the inning with a first-pitch double from Clete Thomas. Thomas advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Pedro Florimon, and then scored when Wilkin Ramirez ripped a line drive into left field for an RBI single. At the end of the first inning, the score was 2-1 in favor of Gwinnett. Neither team scored again.
Rochester had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth when Rameirez led off with a double and moved to third when Danny Valencia grounded out to short with one out. However, Matt Carson went down swinging and the Wings left the inning empty-handed.
French finished the game with five and 1/3 innings pitched, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk before being relieved by Lester Oliveros in the top of the sixth.
Oliveros left the game after two batters and finished the day with 2/3 innings pitched and one strikeout when he was relieved by Matt Maloney. Maloney pitched well in relief in three innings of work, allowing one hit and striking out two.
