Dr. Matt Devine, Associate Medical Director at Highland Family Medicine and Board Member for American Diabetes Association joined Katrina Irwin on News 8 at Sunrise Thursday. He talked about the upcoming Tour De Cure.
It's an annual bike ride that is organized by the American diabetes association. There are varying distances ranging from a family 3 mile fun ride, to a 15, 25, 50, metric 100, and 100 mile ride.
The ride raises awareness and acknowledges diabetics in their battle with this disease. This year there are expected to be over 2000 riders, and a percentage of those riders are individuals that have Type I or Type II diabetes. The diabetics riding in the Tour de Cure are given a red jersey and they are called Red riders. The red riders are being sponsored by Highland hospital this year.
The ride is scheduled for June 10th, 2012 and the riders will depend at staggered times in the morning depending on the distance they will be riding. This year the start and finish of the event will be at the Gordon Field house at RIT.
