Baseball Month in Rochester continues Sunday with the Empire State Yankees-Pawtucket Red Sox game, featuring Andy Pettitte on the mound for the Yanks. The Red Wings are off on Sunday, followed by an eight-game road trip that includes stops at Pawtucket (Red Sox) and Syracuse (Nationals).
In the first game, the Bisons got an early lead in the second inning against Rochester starter P. J. Walters. Four singles, including an infield hit off Walters' leg, put Buffalo ahead 1-0.
The Red Wings tied the game in the bottom of the third, against Bisons starter Dylan Owen. Ray Chang singled and Owen walked Rene Rivera, and Owen's throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Darin Mastroianni allowed Chang to score and make it a 1-1 contest.
The game was decided in the fifth inning, when Rivera led off with a single, and eventually scored on Brian Dozier's sacrifice fly.
Walters (3-1) pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and a walk in seven innings, while striking out seven.
In game two, Mastroianni drove in four more with a two-run double in the 4th and a two-run single in the 6th. Deolis Guerra earned the win, pitching two and a third innings of relief behind spot starter Brendan wise.
Anthony Slama got the final four outs for his 7th save.
