The hard work of this week's News 8 Golden Apple Award winner was celebrated this past weekend in March when Albion High School presented it's spring musical, The Sound of Music. Tonight we surprise music teacher Gary Simboli.

Albion high School Principal Leslie Stauss had a plan. She asked several students involved in the spring musical to come to the choir room. Then she called Music Teacher Gary Simboli to come down. When he walked in we all jumped up and yelled surprise! They gave a standing ovation to a man who directs the chorus and the drama club and spends countless hours at school day and night.

Leslie Stauss, Principal: "He's fabulous with the kids" says Stauss. "I don't think there's a student in this building who works with Gary that can't say a positive thing about him."

Gary was nominated for a News 8 Golden apple Award by Sophomore Josh Howes. "Because Mr. Simboli spends most of his time helping us and he's a really great man, he's a really great man. And he dedicates his time all with us."

This is a story about a man who is honored to come to school everyday. You'll find Gary Simboli's picture in the Albion High year book, class of 1981. It was special here when he was a student and Gary says it's even more special now as a teacher. "And I graduated from here and this is the only place I ever wanted to work. The spirit of the kids and the camaraderie in the building it makes it fun to come here. And I say to the chorus everyday, they're the best part of my day."

Gary Simboli is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read the letter we got from Josh nominating him below.

Dear News 8,

I Joshua want to nominate Mr. Simboli as a Golden Apple Award because of his true dedication to all students.  He always does the extra steps above what he is required as a teacher to help students accomplish everything that they need.
Mr. Simboli spends a lot of his time helping students succeed.  With our drama careers he is very kind, always there for us, gives guidance and always makes time for his students even with his busy schedule.  He always finds time for us, we are his first priority no matter what.
He works very hard to make all of us successful and guide us in the right direction This is why Mr. Gary Simboli should get the Golden Apple Award. He really deserves it because he is one of the best Teachers around. Thank You

Sincerely,

Joshua Howes, Sophomore
