At the Hochstein School of Music and Dance, Joshua Stokes takes the stage. This flutist is one of the school's best music students. He's been playing the flute for 7 years and is the principal flute in the Hochstein Youth Symphony.
"I've always loved the sound of the instrument," he says. "It was always an interest of mine when I was younger, so it was an easy choice for me"
Joshua is a straight-A student at Newark High School, and he brings that discipline to his music. He practices up to four hours a day. Last May he was selected to attend the prestigious Interlochen Summer Arts Program, and the Skidmore Flute Institute.
"He's just a wonderful student," says Hochstein Flute Teacher Kathryn Scarbrough. "He has a wonderful character about him, he's easy to work with, and he works incredibly hard." Joshua will study music in college. His dream is to play in a professional orchestra.
