Our News 8 Golden Apple Award winner is an Art Teacher, a Special Olympics Coach and a breast cancer survivor. Martha Price always has a smile on her face. And that's just one reason she's loved by everyone at the Creekside School of Monroe #1BOCES. Martha was nominated for a Golden Apple Award by the entire staff. They gathered outside her classroom door to help us surprise her.

After 30-years of teaching, this year Ms. Price was asked to take on a new challenge and teach Art. Martha loves it. She gets to see all the kids in the school. And she discovered what she does helps students in ways she never thought possible. "Well I think it's a great idea because these kids need to express themselves. They need to get the self assurance that they can be artistic. A lot of them have been told they're not, so they come in here and I have to encourage them and make them believe that they can be an artist."

Martha's co-workers believe she has several gifts that make her the perfect teacher. Deidra Miller teaches Special Education. "She's always happy. She works very, very, very well with others and she's always willing to help."

Martha Price is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. If you look below you can read the letter we got from the Principal at Creekside nominating her on behalf OF the entire school.

Dear News 8,

I'm writing on behalf of the Creekside School staff and students. We would like to nominate Ms. Martha Price for a Golden Apple Award. Ms. Price has worked for Monroe #1 BOCES for 29 years. She spent her career working with students with multiple disabilities in her own 12.1.4 classroom. This year, however, administration asked Ms. Price to take on a new challenge and provide art to all the students at Creekside School (ages 5-21 years).

Ms. Price agreed without hesitation because she knew it was best for the students and the school. She services all 150 students for 30 minutes a week. Ms. Price teaches creative, hands-on engaging lessons that the students love. The students look forward to attending art each week and it provides them an opportunity to express themselves without using language; something many of the students struggle to do.

Our school is lucky to have Ms. Price as a teacher, she is a rare talent that makes learning come alive.

Sincerely,

Principal Beth Eggler, Creekside School
