A woman was found seriously injured outside a local restaurant, and the question tonight is why.

Police say 52-year-old Suanne Polasky was found lying in the parking lot of Pixley's Restaurant in Gates with a serious brain injury.

But it's unclear whether she fell, or was hit by a car.

News 8's Tina Shively has the story.

It was the height of the lunch hour on December 8th at Pixley's Restaurant, a popular spot on Buffalo Road.

Dave Polasky of Middleport near Buffalo, just got a new job in Gates and he and his wife Suanne stopped at the restaurant amid their house hunting trip to use the restroom.

He stepped away for just a few moments to walk their dog, and tragedy struck.

Dave Polasky said "After going back and timing it and pacing it there must've been no more than 25 seconds between the time I left her and came back up out of the parking lot and she was already on the ground passed out and was already bleeding out of her nose and mouth and the back of her head."

Dave held her until the ambulance arrived, and did not have a chance to talk to the woman who called 911.

Police are now reviewing surveillance cameras in the area, but so far have no solid answers.

Investigators believe a customer may have accidentally hit her with their car.

Sergeant Jonathan Ballard of the Gates Police Department said "Someone may have struck her and didn't even know it. It doesn't look that if she was struck that she was struck with a bunch of force, so that's very possible."

Suanne is now in a coma, with 4 broken ribs and a massive contusion on her head.

Doctors told dave she may never wake up, and have asked him if he wishes to continue her care.

He says will not give up.

"The nurses and doctors are telling us not to put too much hope in little signs but I have to believe she may respond to the sound of my voice."

Restaurant staff told Dave they may have seen a gray or silver car in the area at the time of the accident.

He hopes more people will step forward and help figure out what happened to his wife of 26 years.

Dave added "People inside the restaurant sitting at the windows, people coming and going, somebody had to have seen something."

If you have any information you're asked to call the Gates Police Department at 247-2262.

God Bless you David. We love you both.
