Green Changes for Turning Point Park

The park is located in Charlotte along the Genesee River. She's excited that a state grant of more than $550,000 will help improve this area and make it more environmentally friendly. "Anything to beautify the area is good."

The grant will cover about 90% of the project. It will add gardens, restrooms, and improve parking.

"this parking will be green parking, in that it will be permeable parking so storm water, instead of running off into the river or other water bodies will infiltrate right into the ground," says Anne Spaulding the City of Rochester Senior Environmental Specialist.

There is already one rain garden there at the park. But now, there will be more. Many are excited about the restrooms. "We're also planning to construct a green restroom. A small restroom facility there isn't one there now that will encorporate water conservation and energy efficient applications," Spaulding adds.

Once the project is done, those in charge hope the public can learn from it. "We should have some signage at the location to describe the green infrastructure that we constructed showing the benefits of green infrastructure and energy efficient aspects of green restroom," says Spaulding.

Right now the plan is in the design stages but they hope to have the work complete by the end of next summer.
