The kids of the Horizons Student
Enrichment Program at the Harley School are getting fit and having fun with
Zumba. "Zumba has so much activity and so
much movement that it gets your body going and once you start, you don't want
to stop," said Yakira Bush. Zumba is an exhilarating workout
that incorporates Latin/Party Music and high energy dance moves
The kids have a
ball, according to instructor, Nene Ortiz."They're all over the place. When
they hear a song they love, they're like 'oh my gosh, that's my song...that's my song!'"
Since its inception in 2001, Zumba has grown to become the world's most successful dance fitness program with people of all shapes, sizes and ages taking part. This is the first year The Horizons Program has offered Zumba and so far it's been a hit with kids."My favorite part is just dancing and having a good time," said 12 year old Sidney Taylor.
In addition to the Zumba classes, kids are enjoying other activities such as lacrosse, swimming and tennis. But Zumba is the favorite way to get fit for these kids like 13 year old Camilia Sosa. "It's really fun because you kind of get to express yourself and dance and move."
Not only are the kids enjoying these classes, but teachers, volunteers and staff are also getting in on the fun and fitness.
