The embattled Democrat released a statement on Saturday saying he was requesting a leave from Congress to get treatment to make him a "better husband and healthier person." The move comes after top Democratic leaders have called on him to resign and seek counseling. House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz both called for Weiner to step down over the online sexting scandal.
Weiner remains under fire after admitting last week that he sent provocative pictures of himself to several women over the Internet. Weiner maintains that he has no plans to resign. Sunday's protest is set to begin at 2 p.m. outside Weiner's home in Forest Hills.
