It's an electronics graveyard of sorts. But none of these parts will end up in the ground. Instead, at Maven Technologies every old scrap finds a new home. "Everything is refurbished for re-use if it can be. But if it's just non-working, then it gets dismantled. Seperated into the component level and then it is refined for it's precious metals," says Todd Wheaton V.P and General Manager at Maven Technolgies.

This computer and electronics recycling company has been holding drives across the state. And this weekend, there will be one at R.I.T.

"We'd like everyone to bring any televisions, computers, laptops, nintendo ds, ps3, cell phones, any types of computer and electronics equipment that they have," Wheaton adds.

The only things they won't take are household appliances like stoves and refrigerators.

Wheaton says, "In Syracuse we had a recycling event last month and more than 3,000 people came through that event. 350,000 pounds of computer and electronic equipment."

Even more was collected at a recent event in Albany. Maven Technologies has been around since 1998, but they've seen a big increase in residential business recently with some new laws that went into effect in ny state."

"It's good that people are becoming educated on responsible recycling and the importance of recycling computer and electronic equipment," says Wheaton.

If you are worried about confidential information stored on your computer, don't be.

Wheaton says, "all of the information is removed from the computer and if it can't be removed because the hardrive is non-working then it is physically destroyed."

The recycling event is this Saturday, June 11th from 8 a.m. until noon at R.I.T.
