Martin The Man In Red Wings Win

Dustin Martin delivered a pair of two-RBI hits, helping the Red Wings to a 5-2 win over the Norfolk Tides Monday night at Frontier Field. The Red Wings return home to host Indianapolis on Thursday, June 16.

Norfolk took an early 1-0 lead off starter Ryan Mullins when Rhyne Hughes tripled to score Josh Bell from first base.

Rochester regained the lead in the fourth inning when Martin singled with the bases loaded and two outs to score Aaron Bates and Steve Singleton. Norfolk starter Chris Tillman ended Rochester's rally, getting Toby Gardenhire to fly out to right field to end the inning.

The Tides threatened in the sixth inning putting two runners in scoring postion with two outs, but Mullins was able get Ryan Hughes to pop up to Singleton to end the threat.

Martin extended the lead to 4-1 in the sixth with a bases loaded double scoring Bates and Singleton. After intentionally walking Gardenhire to load the bases, reliever Chris George struck Steve Holm out looking and then get Jeremy Reed to pop up to end the inning.

Cole DeVries came on in relief in the seventh inning retiring the side in order. Mullins lasted six innings on the mound, allowing five hits, one earned run, struck out two, and surrendered only one walk.

The Red Wings struck again in the seventh when Jeff Bailey took reliever Chris George deep to left field to push Rochester's lead to 5-1.

DeVries struck out three in two innings, and Dusty Hughes worked the ninth inning for Rochester - allowing a home run to Josh Bell. Hughes struck out the next two batters and got a ground out to end the game.

Toby Gardenhire flew out in the eighth inning, giving him an 0-for-3 game with a walk and ending his 10-game hitting streak.
