Today's winner of our scholastic arts spotlight is a top-notch vocalist. And, if he has his way, he'll be attending the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music next fall. Meet Brockport High School's Dan Walton.
At Brockport High School----senior Dan Walton is a role model----especially for his friends in the music program. Walton is president of the drama club, and the school choir.
"I think I do a pretty good job of helping classmates succeed and be the best they can be," says Walton. "I love it. I love everything about it. I love performing, I love singing, I love dancing, I love acting, and there's really nothing else I would rather be doing."
Liz Banner, Director of the Brockport High School Choir, says, "He's just an outgoing young man, he leads by example, he picks up and does a job when it needs to be done. He's always prepared for rehearsal, sings accurately...he's incredibly smart, talented, and vibrant, he's a great kid."
Walton's not just a dynamo at school. He's a regular in Rochester Children's Theater. And a standout in the New York State School Music Association. This year, he's one of three baritones selected from across New York to participate in the conference all-state jazz choir.
"The audience's reaction and applause really drives me to keep going and give it all I have," says Walton.
Dan will study musical theater in college. His ultimate goal is Broadway.
