Kristin Still, Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic School

Our News 8 Golden Apple Award winner just celebrated her birthday with her students. Several parents at Our Mother Of Sorrows Catholic School in Greece asked us to celebrate Kindergarten Teacher Kristin Still.
Miss Still is the type of teacher who always puts her students first. Parents, like Janine Nasca, say Kristin is as humble a person as you'll ever meet. "She never wants the attention, she never wants the credit. It's more than a job for her. She just thinks it's a privilege and having fun. She loves it.
Kristin Still calls teaching a privilege. It's her ministry. The kids and their parents are her life. "I don't think of this as a job. I enjoy coming to work. I get early in the morning and I'm here. And I just love it. I enjoy the activities as much as the kids and I love to see them grow. And I love to see them grow up through the years."
Principal Sam Zalacca says "Above and beyond doesn't describe. If there's something that's above and beyond above and beyond that's Kristin."
Kristin Still is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read the letter we got from the Nasca family nominating her below.
Dear Channel 8,
I write this essay with a bit of urgency. Ms.Kristin Still is currently teaching my daughters kindergarten class at Our Mother of Sorrows School but has taught for the Catholic Diocese of Rochester for 30 years. Ariana is my youngest of four children that have all had the opportunity to attend catholic schools. I have never had the privilege of experiencing a teacher of Ms. Stills caliber! As you might have heard, Our Mother of Sorrows School will sadly be closing at the close of this school year. With the future of Ms. Still uncertain, my wish is to acknowledge this amazing woman publicly with the Golden Apple Award.
Ms. Still works endlessly for our children. She stays after school EVERY night of the week preparing her lessons. She occasionally holds pajama parties for the children to come back to school in the evening to read bedtime stories and have hot cocoa. Her communication with parents is impeccable with correspondence home daily. She spends her personal money on most crafts that are done in school and sends pictures home EVERY single week that she takes and develops herself of all activities done during the week.
Aside from her professionalism, she is the most humbled and unassuming person I have ever met. She is very meek and never wants credit for what she says is a "privilege". With registration well under way for next year, many families who know Kristin are waiting to see where she will be hired before registering, yes, she has a following!
Though Kristin has no children of her own, she has made the difference in hundreds of children's lives at a very tender age. Some people have the privilege to say that they were BLESSED with an important teacher that made all the difference and I'm sure in years to come Ariana will be able to say just that! Ms. Still birthday is March 13th. We will be having a party for her at school on Monday March 15th. There would be nothing more enjoyable than to present her with this award for her birthday. I know that's asking a lot, I just thought I'd throw that out there! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this essay I truly hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
Janine & Ariana Nasca
