After working at Kodak for 24 years. Todd Sankes decided it was time for a change. He wanted to open up his own business. "As I looked into it and found it offered an environmentally friendly alternative to the conventional dry cleaners it really intrigued me," he says.
After doing some research, he decided to open up a Martinizing dry cleaning franchise. It's the first one in our area. He uses what's called a green earth process. "The process is actually in the solvent. It's environmentally friendly, it's less abusive to the fabric and actually what green earth does, you can see smell touch the difference from an alternative solvent."
This green dry cleaning process is relatively new. It's been around for about ten years. "it's a silicone based solvent. They call it liquid sand. There's no smell to it, no odor and it basically breaks down into water sand and co2," says Sankes.
Because there is no odor, all of the cleaning happens right inside the Perinton store.
Sankes says the response has been great from customers so far. "If the response continues I do have plans down the road to offer 4 or 5 more stores in the area."
This is one of 500 Martinizing dry cleaners in the U.S.
Martinizing Dry Cleaners is located at 12 Courtney Drive in Fairport (near the intersection of rte 250 and rte 31.) The telephone number is 425-4242.
