The futures of the Knighthawks and Amerks in Rochester don't appear bright. Those concerns were crystalized by the production and release of a video by the Amerks where Rochester greats stand in an empty Blue Cross Arena wondering where the fans went and what will happen if they don't come back.

Thad Brown and Cory Hepola have a simple answer--the Amerks will be gone from Rochester, with the Knighthawks preceeding them. Despite the best efforts from owner Curt Styres and president Lewis Staats, there may be too many obstacles keeping these teams from becoming profitable soon.

Thad and Cory discuss in another Video Blog.

Few problems I had with this: 1) The market is flooded, you say, yet the only two teams in season are the Amerks and Knighthawks.

2) Nobody tried harder than the Amerks to "spend money" and bring in players. Chris Tayler, Graham Mink, Mike York and so on...

3) When the Sabres were with Rochester and had losing teams, their attendance was significantly higher than it was when Rochester made the playoffs last season. Yet you say bringing Buffalo back wouldn't help.

4) Hershey and Chicago probably have no more flexibility with the roster than Rochester if not less. Many NHL teams don't allow their affiliates to have any control over the roster. Kevin O. at the D n C reported this recently.
