Our News 8 Golden Apple Award winner is living a dream. He teaches at the school he graduated from. We surprise Michael Williams at McQuaid Jesuit.
Mr. Williams has been making Math interesting for students at McQuaid for 15 years. He's really helped Ninth Grader Nick Kolb. "At previous schools I struggled in Math and now Mr. Williams has actually helped me. And now I have higher grades."
Nick says Mr. Williams is caring teacher. "He's a very, very caring person and he devotes his life to his students. And you can see that in his classroom that he really cares about his students."
"Mike Williams is exemplary" says Fr. Jim Coughlin, McQuaid Principal. "He's something that I've actually at faculty meetings even called attention to. That his work is so good with students and he is so caring and loving for his students that other teachers would do well to emulate him."
Mr. Williams says he loves his job because he works with new students every year. "Those students kind of change your life in a lot of ways. They have a lot of impact as well on what you do with your life too. And those are some of the important things right there. And I'm glad to come back to my alama mater too."
He also likes where he works because he's a McQuaid Graduate, class of 1988. "I want to thank you so much it means a great deal. Sometimes when you're a teacher you walk away from your job and you really don't realize if you're making a difference in someone's life. But this does make a difference."
Michael Williams is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read the letter we got from Nick nominating him below.
Dear Channel 8,
It would be an honor to nominate my math teacher Mr. Williams from McQuaid Jesuit for The Golden Apple Award. He is a very loving teacher towards all his students. Around Christmas time he sent out Christmas cards to all 160 of his students. When I received his card I was truly grateful that he would do something that would bring such joy to my fellow classmates and me.
He is one of a kind teacher who really truly cares for his students. Before I had Mr. Williams I struggled with math, now he has taught me if you understand math the right way you tend to love it for life. I truthfully think that Mr. Williams deserves The Golden Apple Award.
Sincerely,
Nick Kolb
McQuaid Jesuit 9th Grader
