Our News 8 Golden Apple Award winner is unique in the world of education; a man who teaches Kindergarten.  And at Rochester School No.39 they Love Doug Craven.

Mr. Craven came to School No.39 in college and never left.  Assistant Principal Rebecca Boyle says that was more than a decade ago. "He did his internship and all of his teaching has been here. He is a phenomenal kindergarten teacher. He's very energetic, he relates to the little ones. Mr. Craven is very animated, he always has a smile, he has tons of high energy and it's wonderful for our little kids to have a male role model."

Mr. Craven was nominated by Chloe Davis' Mother Amanda Angie. Chloe is a little girl with special needs. Her Mom's fears disappeared after she met Mr. Craven. "And he's made it nothing but awesome and excellent and easy for her to transition in. He's very patient, he's very kind. Kindergarten builds the foundation for a lifetime of learning and Mr. craven does a good job of that."

Doug Craven seems just like any other guy. He's a big fella, he loves football and he loves teaching, especially Kindergarten. And he says this honor is a surprise and an inspiration to keep doing what he loves.

"It means a lot, it really does. Putting a lot of hard work into what I do, it's just amazing, I really appreciate this a lot. I'm really surprised."

Doug Craven is a News 8 Golden Apple Award winner. You can read the letter Amanda wrote to us below.

Dear Channel 8,

My daughter chloe has behavioral issues and we as parents wanted her to go to a regular Kindergarten class. Mr. Craven has been nothing but nice and has made this transition an easy one for her. She comes home from school every day excited about what they had learned that day and excited to go back the next day.

Sincerely,

Amanda Angie, Chloe's Mother
