(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks went back to their roots today as they selected longtime defenseman and assistant coach Mike Hasen the sixth head coach in franchise history. The Knighthawks also named former Knighthawks head coach Paul Day and Jason Johnson as the assistant coaches.
“It feels pretty special. I never really expected it,” said Hasen. “I am really looking forward to it.
“With Paul we are going back to our roots. I greatly respect him and his commitment to Rochester. It is an example I intend to follow,” added Hasen. “(Jason) and I worked really well together (last year). We were always on the same page. Having him back will make the transition easier. I look forward to working with both of them.”
Hasen, 38, enters the position after spending the past 11 seasons with the Knighthawks, nine as a player and the past two as an assistant coach. It is the second head coaching position for the Toronto native. This summer, he coached the Brampton Excelsiors of Major Series Lacrosse to within one win of the Mann Cup Finals.
