A lawsuit was brought against Quinnipiac University in federal court about the viability of cheerleading as a sport for Title IX purposes. The school wanted to shutdown women's volleyball, among other sports, and add competitive cheerleading to balance out their men's and women's athletes.
The judge ruled cheerleading is not a sport, but could be one in the future. The ruling went against cheerleading because it is disorganized on a national level and many teams' primary focus is supporting other sports, not competing.
Thad Brown and Cory Hepola discuss the ruling and it's repurcussions for cheerleading in this week's Video Blog.
