Pridie's Clutch Homer Wins It For Wings

Jason Pridies three-run homer in the eighth inning capped a big comeback for Rochester, as the Red Wings took a 7-4 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Sunday afternoon. Darnell McDonald had three hits, two walks and an RBI for Rochester, who got several sparkling defensive plays and four scoreless, hittless relief innings after trailing 4-0. Rochester starter Philip Humber issued a pair of first inning walks and a hit batter, but got away with allowing just one run on Jason Lanes sacrifice fly. The Yankees had upped their lead to 4-0 by the fourth inning, and would have had a lot more if not for a pair of great catches by Jon Knott in left field in the third and fourth innings. Pridie made another fielding gem, diving to take away what could have been a bases-clearing hit from Bernie Castro. Right fielder McDonald also helped Humber out, by gunning down Juan Miranda when Miranda tried to turn a single into a double in the third. The Red Wings finally caught up to Yankees starter Steven White in the fifth, when Jose Morales blasted a two-run homer far over the right field wall. Matt Macri scored ahead of Morales, bringing the Wings to within two at 4-2. Howie Clarks RBI single scored Pridie in the sixth to make it a one-run Scranton lead. Humber lasted five innings and threw 91 pitches, allowing five hits and four walks. Casey Daigle took over in the sixth, walked the first two batters he faced, then made a great fielding play, snagging a bunt by Chris Stewart and getting a force out at third base on a very close play -- so close, that Yankees skipper Dave Miley was ejected after a lengthy argument with umpires Chris Conroy and Jason Bradley. Daigle worked out of the inning without allowing a run. McDonald tied the score in the sixth with a two-out single, bringing in Chris Basak. Daigle added another scoreless inning, giving way to Carmen Cali in the seventh inning. Cali (2-0) was perfect in his one inning pitched. With Chris Britton pitching in the eighth, Basak doubled with one out and moved to third on an infield hit by Alexi Casilla. That set the stage for Pridies home run, an opposite field blast on a 2-0 pitch from Britton. The homer extended Pridies hitting streak to nine games. Britton (0-2) had not allowed a run in any of his previous outings this year. Bobby Korecky picked up his fourth save by getting a popout, strikeout and groundout to close out the comeback win.
