Fit Kids: Goal!

(GATES) - At Total Sports Experience, it's all about Fit Kids, a micro program where youngsters learn soccer and stay in shape.
"I think it's a great chance to stay active," said Jamie Hammond. "There's 150 kids coming every week to learn soccer, basketball, and baseball. They're having fun, and you tire them out for the parents a little bit, so they get the benefit as well."
Getting 4- and 5-year-olds enthusiastic about staying fit is a challenge for any parent, so the benefits of this program are immeasurable.
"I think it's been great," said Jeanne Covert, a parent. "It gets my daughter out. The weather's been nice, but when it started it was cold out. It got her active, running, meeting other kids, and got her learning about soccer, and how to play a sport."
With so much out there that can distract kids from the virtues of a good workout, the soccer program at Total Sports delivers a goal.
"With today's culture and all the devices we have to make things easier, at times you don't stay active, you kind of get in a rut doing that," said Hammond. "You need to make sure kids know they need to get out and keep doing things, stay active, and to give them opportunities to do that."
