Our News 8 Golden Apple Award winner makes everyone around her better; children and adults. She's Special Education Teacher Eileen Horne from Roth Middle School in Henrietta. Eileen has been a Special Education Teacher at Roth for 22 years. Her Principal is Denise Zeh. "Eileen is successful with our kids because she sets them up for success. She believes in them, set high expectations but she really balances it with that nurturing."
One thing you hear over and over in Eileen's classroom is encouragement. She gives students confidence by showing them she cares. Teacher's Aide Chris Henninger nominated Ms. Horne. Chris says Eileen is a great example of the Teacher he wants to become. "And I hopefully can be like her. Make learning fun, have the respect of all the kids and everyone else in the school too."
Eileen shares a classroom with Co-Teacher Carol Harrington. Carol says Eileen always comes to school prepared. "She brings humor, she brings strategies, she brings expertise. She teaches me everyday to be a better teacher."
Despite all the work, Eileen says working with kids is her biggest reward. "Because they make me feel like I'm making a difference in their lives and that's important to me."
Eileen Horne is a News 8 Golden Apple Award Winner. You can read the letter we got from Chris nominating her below.
Dear Channel 8,
Eileen is a wonderful teacher and person. As her Teacher's Aide, I have learned a lot from her. She is always willing to help me or the students. She always has a line at her desk from students wanting to say hi or need help.
She is an asset to all the students and the school. Students will come in from years past just to say hi, and she always greets students in the hallway warmly.
Her sense of humor is great. She deserves it. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Chris Henninger
Teacher's Aide
Roth Middle School
