Amerks Fall To Sens

The Binghamton Senators defeated the Rochester Americans 7-4 at Broom County Veterans Memorial Arena tonight. The loss drops the Amerks to 20-39-6-4 this season. The Senators now have won all seven contests between these two clubs. The two teams will meet one more time this season on Sunday March 30th at The Blue Cross Arena as the Amerks hope to avoid the season sweep against the Ottawa Senators affiliate. For the second consecutive night the Amerks fell behind early as Niko Dimitrakos and the Binghamton Senators struck 32 seconds into the contest. Dimitrakos put his 17th goal of the season past Amerks Rookie goalie Tyler Plante with the help of Matt Kinch and Justin Mapletoft. Josh Hennessy added to the lead at the 5:19 mark of the first on an individual effort to score his 19th goal of the season. Off the ensuing faceoff Nick Foligno made it 3-0 for his third of the season at the 5:40 mark of the first. Making his second tally of the night, Dimitrakos made the game 4-0 on the power-play at the 12:08 mark of the first with the help from Lawrence Nycholat. At the 7:34 mark of the second rookie forward Marc-Andre Gragnani got one of the goals back. Gragnani’s 12th of the year was assisted by new comer Tommy Goebel. The goal also extends Gragnani’s point streak to four games and Goebel’s streak to three games. The Amerks got another goal back when Drew Larman netted his seventh goal of the year from Rob Globke at the 9:36 mark of the second. The Amerks pulled with in one when Dylan Hunter put his 18th goal of the season past Senators goalie Brian Elliott. The Amerks left winger’s goal came at the 11:46 mark of the second with the assists going to Mark Mancari and Peter Aston. Hunters goal ties him for the team lead in goals with Stefan Meyer. Binghamton’s Russian born center, Alexander Nikulin got a two goal lead back for the Senators when he scored his 11th of the year at the 18:50 mark of the second from Scott May. 1:44 into the third the Amerks pulled back to with in one when Larman scored his second of the night and eighth of the year. Getting the assists on Larmans goal was Gragnani and Clark MacArthur. With the assist MacArthur extends his point streak to three games. This was as close as the Amerks were able to get to the Senators May put the Senators back ahead by two at the 6:57 mark of the third. Nikulin returned the favor to May for his third goal of the season. May added an empty net goal with 28 seconds left on the clock to clinch the game for the Senators. Rochester returns home on Wednesday, March 26th to welcome the surging Manitoba Moose back to The Blue Cross Arena for game one of a two-game mini series between the divisional foes.
