"No Soup for You"

A popular Park Avenue eatery was robbed and it happened in the middle of the afternoon. Neighboring business owners say they're shocked and scared because they could be the next target.

The robbery happened at a place known for its soup. On Wednesday, there truly was, "no soup for you" or anyone else at Nathan's Soup and Salad on Park Avenue. According to an email sent out by a member of the Park Avenue Merchants Association, Nathan's employees were held at knife-point around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon.

"I think it's just the situation that somebody might have just struck an opportune moment and according to some of the merchants on the street that I've gotten information from, this person has been seen by some merchants in the last couple of weeks," said Jim Catalano, Secretary of the Park Avenue Merchants Association.

The email warns neighboring businesses about the hold-up. Business owners say they're surprised that a robbery happened on such a busy street in such a busy place.

"It's very nervous wracking, it's scary. And obviously when you have the employees and they're young you do worry about their safety and your clientele and the people that come to your business," said Maria Trapanovski, employee at the Park Avenue Salon & Day Spa.

Trapanovski who works just a few doors down from Nathan’s says many businesses in the area have become complacent because crime rarely hits Park Avenue. But she says it doesn't mean police should turn a blind eye on the popular street.

"I would really appreciate it if police would spend a little more time around this area. I believe there was a robbery last year at Speedy Drycleaner and it was the same thing, it was broad daylight," said Trapanovski.

Nathan's employees who were not injured during the robbery gave police a detailed description of the robber. They have yet to release that information.
