6-GREAT-82008-03-11-1205275362.jpgTuesday means we rank and read some of the top efforts from the Section Five sports week.  Here's Thad Brown with a brand new edition of our high school Great 8.

Number 8, Nicole Jones, Nazareth. 26 points, 21 rebounds and 11 blocks in two games, leading the Lasers to the State Semis.

Number 7, Northstar will be joining Naz in the New York Final Four thanks to Jaanai Beckford. 31 points, 24 boards and nine blocks in a pair of wins for the Knights.

Number 6, Jordan Major, Charlotte. 11 points in the Lakesiders state quarterfinal loss, but enough to let the senior finish his career with 1000 points.

Number 5, Brett Bannon, Webster Thomas. Two goals helping the Titans to a win in the State Finals.

But, Bannon would have never gotten there without, Number 4, Justin Scharfee who scored three goals in the state semis. The third consecutive hat trick for Scharfee, a huge reason the Titans won their first ever hockey state championship.

A tie at Number 2 because it's the same accomplishment.... Ian Paddock, Warsaw. Won his third straight state wrestling title at 130 pounds.

As did Pal-Mac's Alex Ekstrom at 135. The scary part... both champs are juniors and could get four next year.

Number 1, Shenise Johnson scored 16 of her team's 18 fourth quarter points, literally carrying Rush-Henrietta to a sectional title. Then followed with 34 points, 25 boards, 11 assists and five steals in the state quarterfinal, sending R-H to its fourth straight New York Final Four.
