"Healthy lifestyles will help prolong life, but not only will it help prolong life, it will also help promote a higher quality of life," said Bishop David Singleton, from the Ark of Jesus Ministries.

Bishop Singleton believes that eating right and having fun can lead to a healthy life. That's why this past summer he came up with the program Ark's Fit Kidz.

"They were able to partake in using the Wii when it's too hot outside. We had a number of systems: Wii, Wii Fit, we did relay races, jump rope, hula hooping, calisthenics, basketball and so forth," said Bishop Singleton. "We went to the playground, did playground sort of things, so it was a lot of physical activity."

The program was also part education. Children learned about eating healthy.

"With the real little ones, we would talk about let's say a fruit. We went into the nutritional value of a fruit: How it affects the body," said Bishop Singleton. "So we ask students, all of the kids. They were eating oats, carrots, broccoli, all kinds of things. They were eating raw - we taught them the value of raw, frozen, fresh, and they enjoyed it."

Singleton said the message spread beyond the children, to the rest of the congregation at the Ark of Jesus Ministries.

"I do know a number of them took it home because they have spoken to their parents about the potato chips and how they weren't as healthy for them, that kind of thing. It's good to hear, the little kids talking about that."

Bishop Singleton said his program is proof that you don't have to have a lot of money to exercise and eat right.
