GIRLSRH2008-03-04-1204663753.jpgShenise Johnson has had plenty of virtuoso performances in her career, but Monday night may have been her masterpiece. Johnson scored 16 of Rush-Henrietta's 18 points in the fourth quarter and quite literally carried the Royals Comets to a 62-59 win over Fairport in the Class AAA final at Blue Cross Arena. R-H led 9-1 early, but Fairport came back to go up one at halftime. The third quarter went back and forth, only to settle at the same margin that closed the first half. While Johnson was putting on a show at one end, Brittany Wilson and Alison DiMagno had plenty of answers for Fairport. No team led by more than three points the entire fourth quarter. Johnson tied the game at 56 with a short jumper that touched every part of the rim before falling in. She gave the Royal Comets a three point lead with free throws. Fairport had two chances to tie. The first was a heave three and on the second chance, they couldn't beat the game clock.

At Class AA, Greece Athena finished a magical run, holding off Canandaigua 54-47. Nicole Bini was named MVP with 19 points for the Trojans. Athena beat the fourth, first and second seed to win the title and handed the Braves (22-1) their only loss of the season.

The Class A game also went down to the wire, with HF-L squeaking by Mendon 56-53. The Vikings had a chance to tie, but an off-balance 22-footer at the buzzer hit only backboard. The Cougars trailed by six midway through the fourth quarter, but went on a 10-2 run to take the lead. Camaryn Buckner scored 22 points for HF-L to earn MVP honors. Jessica Petruchik chipped in 15.
