CrownPlazaProtest2008-03-01-1204424176.jpgHotel workers and clergy leaders hit the picket lines in downtown Rochester Saturday to boycott the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Members of the Rochester Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) organized the boycott. Members say hotel workers are denied living wages and fair working conditions and they want employees to be able to form a union. The organizers say management at the hotel has refused that request.

"We will continue to contact customers and ask them not to do business, not to eat, sleep or drink here at the Crown Plaza until management decides to act fairly toward employees,” says Rev. Roy Hedman C.L.U.E.

"We don't believe that we need a union to represent our employees.  We have an open door policy.  We've always attempted to solve any issues with employees internally and I think we've been very good at that over the years," says Paul Kemp, Crown Plaza GM.

Hotel management says to date employees have not filed a petition to form a union.
