Hundreds family and friends gathered at Linehan Chapel at Nazareth College to say thanks and farewell to Army Specialist Kevin Mowl. The Pittsford native died on Monday from injuries he sustained six months ago when an improvised explosive devise exploded near his vehicle in Bagdhad. “Kevin left us much earlier than normal but he contributed greatly in the days the lord gave him,” said Major General Oates. Harold Mowl wore a tie his son bought him in Iraq and his son’s Purple Heart. Kevin Mowl was awarded a Purple Heart in December. Harold Mowl recalled his son's last visit home when they talked about his plans for the future. He told his father he was thinking about teaching or becoming a conflict resolution negotiator. “Mom and I couldn't stop being so proud of him he was a wonderful person when he was home last march,” said Harold Mowl. Mowls’ sister Carlene said the one word she would used to describe her brother-amazing. Carlene talked about their brother’s sense of humor. “Kevin, I will miss you from your bright blue eyes, your dimple, and most of all your laugh. I could not have asked for a better brother. I will miss you terribly but I'll remember you forever,” said Carlene Mowl. Anthony Mowl praised his brother’s discipline and dedication to serving his country. “Kevin taught me what true discipline meant. Earning a black belt in karate and living a soldiers life in the army. Discipline to Kevin meant commitment to the fullest even if it meant giving his life,” said Anthony Mowl. Army Specialist Kevin Mowl was laid to rest at White Haven Memorial Park.
