The University of Rochester Medical Center is celebrating a big milestone. Doctors in the heart failure and transplantation program performed their 100th cardiac transplant surgery. The first surgery was performed in 2001.
Claudett McAuley from Franklinville was the 100th patient. Her son J.C. McAuley says for the longest time he didn't think his mom would get a new heart or get better.
"She had a stroke two days before Christmas and you think stroke it's the end, but she recovered well. There's times you think it's never going to happen and then when you get the phone call it is happening you're like let's go! "
The cardiac program at the University of Rochester Medical Center is the largest in upstate
