Two children were killed this morning when the car they were riding in was struck by a tractor-trailer. It happened just after eleven at the intersection of Route 262 and Byron Road just west of the town of Byron. The Genesee County Sheriff’s office says 48-year-old Laurie Claus was traveling westbound on 262 when she turned into the path of a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound. Police say seven-year-old Victoria Claus and her 11-year-old brother Christopher were taken to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia were they were pronounced dead. Laurie Claus was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
