A fire at the Ontario County landfill Saturday took four different fire companies to bring under control. The landfill is located on routes 5 and 20 in the Town of Stanley just between Canandaigua and Geneva. The Ontario County Sheriffs tell News 8 Now a recycling dryer caught fire just before 9 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however, fire officials say an equiptment malfunction is likely to blame. Unlike normal dryers, the recycling dryer takes up much of the building and it is powered by compressed gas. The fire damaged not only the recycling dryer but two conveyer belts at the building. Three employees escaped the building unharmed and no firefighters were injured putting out the blaze. NYSEG was called in to cut power to the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
