A typical outdoor scrap yard has major effects on the environment, but we have a safer way to deal with that, AVL Recycling out in
Brent Johnstone has over 28 years experience in auto salvage, and he started a company that will also address the often overlooked environmental aspects of junked cars.
His idea is so revolutionary, that even environmental authorities are backing his business.
"The New York DEC wrote a letter to the town, approving that this would be a preferred method of auto recycling, something that they would like to see more of in the future, compared to doing it outside where there is potential to effect the environment around the operation," said Brent Johnstone, owner of AVL Recycling.
So what's the difference? For starters, all the cars are torn apart in an indoor shop. Recyclable metals are separated from the true scrap. Reusable parts from cars can range from the major components, such as engines and transmissions... All the way down to mirrors and taillights. What about all those harsh chemicals that were in the engine?
"All the fluids get recycled, the freon, the oil, the anti-freeze, even the washer fluid and gasoline we re-use in our own vehicles, so there's pretty much no wastes coming from the cars, particularly the fluids," Brent comments.
Scrap yards are also a great way to find those rare or common replacement parts, and AVL stands behind each and every part they sell. Johnstone says "We feel confident in a six month warranty on all of the parts, and we even do a one year warranty which can be purchased on major parts. "
AVL hopes to dismantle 400-600 cars every year, so their inventory is growing daily. To check on their parts availability, you can call them at (315) 333-5464 or visit their website by clicking here.
