County President Wayne Zyra is calling for stepped up security at tonight’s County Legislature meeting. Zyra says last Saturday’s demonstration in the chambers and the shooting last week in Missouri where a man shot and killed five people prompted the move. “Based on the occurrences that happened in Missouri last week and the demonstration that went on at the Saturday meeting and the necessary action that the chairman had to take to clear the chambers,” said Zyra. Democratic Caucus Communcation Director Joe Rittler says Zyra is overreacting. “We have seen nothing, nothing whatsoever to give us any indication that anything like that will happen at tonight’s meeting or any of the previous meetings. We've seen civil disobedience hat's been peaceful at that's it,” The Public Safety Committee is expected to recommend Tim Donaher to head the county’s Public Defender Office. On Saturday more than 70 people filled the county legislative chambers to protest the selection process for the public defender Three people were arrested for being disruptive, among them State Assemblyman David Gantt and two local ministers.
