Rochester fire firefighters responded to a stove fire at a house on Columbia Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters say a 16-year-old was cooking with grease in the kitchen and that's when the fire started. He then tried to stop the fire by throwing water on it...which actually spread the fire.

"What we want you to do in that situation is call us immediately, let us put the fire out,” says Deputy Chief Martin McMillan. “Sometimes if people have a fire extinguisher and want to do that with a fire extinguisher and give it a shot, I'm not going to say don't do that if you feel comfortable with that but we keep sending this message don't delay, call us immediately."

5 adults and 4 children are being helped out by the Red Cross.
