Rochester Americans’ goalie Adam Dennis made 28 saves to blank the Toronto Marlies 3-0 this afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. The shutout was only the second of the season by an Amerks goalie and the first since November 3rd.
The win broke a nine-game winless streak and gave Rochester its first win since January 12th. The game was the second of a home-and-home series between the two teams. With the win, the Amerks took three of four points from the first-place Marlies this weekend. The win was also the first against Toronto in seven tries for the Amerks, who are now 13-31-3-4.
Amerk forward Mark Mancari led the way with one goal and two assists. He scored the game-winner at 19:07 of the second period and assisted on third-period goals by Marc-Andre Gragnani and Dylan Hunter.
Dennis took care of the rest, including stopping Bates Battaglia on a penalty shot at 5:12 of the third period. The save preserved the 1-0 Rochester lead. Gragnani made it 2-0 at 11:03 and Hunter added an empty-netter at 19:37.
The Amerks played without forwards Stefan Meyer and David Brine. Both players were recalled by the Florida Panthers Saturday morning. The team, however, signed center Yannick Tifu to a 25-game PTO and he made his Amerks debut in Toronto. Tifu arrived from the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL.
The Rochester Americans host the Syracuse Crunch on Wednesday, February 6th at 7:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.
