63-year-old Michael Krembel teaches Arts and Imaging Studies at RIT's National Institute for the Deaf.
Police say their investigation began last June when they got a report of an adult suspect meeting a Batavia minor online. That encounter allegedly ended with the two meeting up and having sex, but at that time police were not able to identify the suspect.
They say they tracked down Krembel online, and on Tuesday Krembel met them in a parking lot, under the impression he was meeting a minor for sex.
RIT officials say they are cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation. They say they are not aware of any complaints against Krembel by RIT students.
Krembel has been placed on leave and is being held in jail without bail.
