(PITTSFORD) - A party held by local supporters of Mike Huckabee erupted in joy shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday night, when Huckabee was announced the winner of the Iowa caucus.
This "meet-up" group has adopted the phrase "I Like Mike," reminiscent of President Eisenhower's "I Like Ike" campaign slogan in the 1950s.
Supporters say they like Huckabee's chances in New York, even though a New Yorker may be his toughest competition here.
"We're hoping that New York State will be a competitive state for Mike, and we'll be able to get him here to campaign actively," said Craig Chormann. "We don't think that Mayor Giuliani should take New York for granted, and we feel that Mike's message is one that resonates nationally."
Organizers say many of Huckabee's local supporters that attended met over the Internet.
