Public Defender Debate Continues

By: WROC-TV
Updated: January 28, 2008
The debate over the Monroe County public defender continued Sunday with a public forum to discuss issues involved in the selection of that position.

The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester hosted a forum and invited members of the Monroe County Bar Association and the coalition for selection of the Public Defender. The goal was to reach an agreement that would eventually please both sides and be best for the community in general.

Sr. Beth LeValley, of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, said the idea was to get information to the citizens and allow them to ask question in order to find out what is really behind the situation. The public defender seat is up for grabs and has been a hotly debated issue in recent weeks.
