obama2008-01-26-1201401779.jpgIt was a big win Saturday night in South Carolina for Obama who took in more than half of the electorate votes. It's been tough a primary in the state where Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton exchanged some of their toughest words.

South Carolina is the first democratic primary in the south with the first largely African-American electorate in primary race for the white house. Obama gave his victory speech to a packed house in Columbia just after 9 p.m.

The win in South Carolina is Obama's second of the primary season, following his January 3rd victory in the Iowa caucuses. Clinton won the New Hampshire primary the following week and last weekend's Nevada caucuses. Obama took in  over half of the votes with 55%,  Senator Hillary Clinton came in second with 27% of the vote  and John Edwards claimed only 18% of the vote.
