Excellus_bcbs2007-12-30-1199063622.gifExcellus Blue Cross Blue Shield has delayed the start of its controversial imaging pre-approval program. Excellus will begin the pre-approval plan on January 16th as opposed to the first of the year. The insurance provider plans to require Rochester doctors to get approval before they can issue scans such as MRIs, CT, PET scans and x-rays.

Excellus BCBS says many of the tests are costly and often unnecessary however, area doctors disagree. Physicians say pre-approval delays patients from getting the tests and the potentially life-saving treatments they need.
