L-SALVATIONARMYWHAT_SNEX2007-12-28-1198857321.jpgPossible cutbacks and another fundraiser, that's what the Rochester Salvation Army is looking to do to make up for a donation shortfall. The Salvation Army fell $130,000 short of its goal for this year's Red Kettle campaign and that could mean programs that benefit 60,000 people in the Rochester area, might suffer.

Major Charles Deitrick says they are still receiving checks in the mail for the fundraiser. But the money raised for the Red Kettle campaign doesn't just help families during the holiday season. It goes straight to programs like emergency shelters and family services, as well as youth development and activities. Come 2008, Deitrick says the advisory board will have to do a major overhaul of the budget.

“We will make a decision using our advisory board to see what is appropriate and take a look at that,” says Maj. Deitrick. “We'll be able to give a bit of a report early January as to exactly if we have to cutback or what our plans will be."

Major Deitrick says another option they have is to do another fundraiser to make up ground where the Red Kettle campaign left off.
