It's a sad day for one Rochester family after a fire started inside their home late Wednesday night. Not only did they lose their home, but pets as well.
The fire broke out just after 11pm on Maryland Street.
Two adults and six children lived inside they home. Officials say they were not at home at the time of the fire.
Investigators say pets inside the home did die in the fire. The fire is believed to have started on the first floor of the home and spread to the second floor. After arriving on the scene it did not take long before firefighters called for more help.
"Upon arrival, we had flames on the first floor coming out of two sides of the structure. Shortly after we realized we would need extra help and a second alarm was called," said Deputy Rochester Fire Chief Ryan Mendolera.
The fire was put under control after about 30 minutes. Investigators are still looking into what caused the fire.
The Red Cross is providing food and clothing to the family who lived inside the home. They are staying with relatives.
