hillsidepennydrive2007-12-17-1197931811.jpgA special holiday for thousands of area youth as a high school fundraising drive came to a close. Batavia High School today presented Hillside Family of Agencies with a check for $27, 975.

Dozens of area high schools collected pennies for 98 PXY's High School Challenge. Batavia High School raised the money in a number of ways including sticking two teachers on the roof.

"We had two of our teachers stand on the roof for 24 hours, or however long we could pay to keep them up there, and we said about 120 dollars an hour we would keep them up there and we kept them up there for 24 hours, so we made I think over 3,000 dollars with that," says Batavia High School senior Annie Palermo.

All the money is going toward Hillside Special Santas, a program that spreads holiday cheer to more than 5,000 disadvantaged kids.
