Shocking news from the world of major league baseball. Some of your baseball heroes may have used steroids. Roughly 80 current and former major league players were named Thursday in the Mitchell Report. Former Senator George Mitchell conducted the two year invesitgation. He names stars like Roger Clemens, Johnny Damon, and Andy Petitte. Mitchell says he found a serious drug culture in baseball and is recommending beefed up testing to clean up the game. In Rochester, Red Wings general manager Dan Mason calls it a sad day for baseball. "It bums you out, any time you hear somebody's done something wrong," he says. "Some of the individuals named in the Mitchell Report I do know. Because they played here." Former Red Wing David Segee is on the list. He played in Rochester in the early 1990's. Larry Bigbee played for the Red Wings 5 seasons ago, and is also implicated in the scandal. But Mason won't rush to judgement. "I'd like to hear from them first," he says. Mason agrees baseball needs to rid the game of steroids once and for all, and he thinks it's on its way to doing that. He believes the steroid era is pretty much over.
